Michiel Brouwer is a self-employed urban planner, specialized in sustainable development and climate adaptation. He graduated as an urban planner at TU Delft in environmental technology, planning and urban renewal. Subsequently he worked at BOOM, with prof. Duijvestein, the pioneer in the field of environmentally conscious and sustainable planning and building.
As an advisor, I am involved in various projects related to climate change and energy transition. At the moment I’m working for the municipality of Katwijk on sustainable planning and nature based design. In the South Holland region, I facilitate the Community of Practice Climate Adaptation, in which approximately 12 municipalities, the water board, and the province of South Holland keep their knowledge up-to-date.
Since 1998, I have been a teacher and tutor at TU Delft. Starting for the chair of Spatial Planning and now for Environmental Technology & Design.
Making sustainable designs is not always easy. Technically, it involves considerations of space, flows, and time, while socially, it requires taking into account people’s daily lives and dealing with various stakeholders. Ultimately, the success of a good design depends on having common support. – My approach is to consider all these issue from various perspectives, whether it be a shared vision for a common future, the perspective of a municipal organization, that of a researcher, an engaged citizen, or an entrepreneur. – I gladly bring this knowledge into your graduation research and design.
